breast cancer

Self-Screen
A woman (and man) can check themselves regularly for breast cancer by palpating the tissue in the breast and under the arm for the presence of lumps. (Yes, while it is rare, sometimes men develop cancerous breast lumps.)

If you detect a lump, bring it to the attention of your physician. He or she may recommend a mammogram as a further test. If breast cancer is suspected, the earlier you detect it, the quicker and easier the treatment. If detected early, simple surgery can remove the lump. If it is NOT detected early, the cancer can spread to internal organs.
